Cannot shuffle all songs - useless for me
This review refers to the Samsung YP-P3 Firmware version 2.22
As I just found out through personal contact to samsung support, this absolutely great sounding player does'nt have a standard 'shuffle-mode'.
It can only shuffle songs within one folder, you can never shuffle between artist or albums unless you put EVERYTHING in one folder.
There are some more software-bugs concerning the menu-programming but what the heck :-)
Don't get me wrong: This is a fantastic sounding Player (I use Ultimate Ears Triple Pro Inears) but no shuffle? Ridiculous !
This posting is an oficial attempt to make products better by posting the obvious in the relevant places online.
Dear Samsungs, as soon as you have fixed this BIG BUG, please post here as well and let us know!
Buyer beware. Does not do all it claims. Also installs malware.
The P3 plays FLAC files and sounds very good... BUT it does NOT support FLAC tags so you will not be able to select your tunes by Album, Artist, Genre, Track Title or even Track Number and you will see no album art. All you will get is a very long list of file names. Absolute pants!
Further, the included Emodio software will silently install a windows component called 'contentSAFER for Winmax'. This piece of malware does not play nice with iTunes and completely trashed my Squeezebox Server installation. What's worse, it cannot be uninstalled in the usual way. You have to find and delete its files and then find and delete its registry entries (not for the fainthearted). Apparently this malware is also installed with Samsung phones. Thanks Samsung. You are now on my blacklist.
I am returning my P3.
Samsung YP-P3
There must be something wrong with the YP-P3 I bought, because the touch screen's responsiveness is so bad that it's laughable.
I've got little fingers so I shouldn't have trouble with touchscreens...Think again! There are certain folders which when I press the adjacent folder opens up or even the one next to that.
At other times nothing happens at all. It's so infuriating that it's almost maddening.I must have a bad example,or else every YP-P3 owner would be up in arms.I've never been a fan of touch screens and this one just confirms it for me.
The sound quality is passable I suppose when listened to through good earphones...Passable,that is,for you poor souls who've never heard proper hi-fi quality sound.
Oh,and it's got a radio...with no stereo!Yes.Incredible to report, but there's no stereo signal on mine - an unforgivable failing in my view. Or perhaps it's just missing on my example.
It's got maps of all the major subways in the world,in case you're thinking of doing a world tour of the subways.Which is really the only reason I can think of for buying one of these.
I really ought to send this back but I suspect that they're all like this.
iPod Touch comparisons aside, an amazing portable media player.
The Samsung yp-p3 is no iPod touch. I'm going ahead and saying it. Once you get past that, you'll realize that this is a fantastic little device, but buy one expecting an apple-killer and you'll be disappointed.
First off - it looks very cool and slim, and it feels pretty sturdy. I feel like it's worth mentioning that the screen is remarkably scratch-proof, because I've had mine for about 3 months now, and despite not protecting it at all from the reasonable amount of wear-and-tear it has encountered there is not a single scratch on its screen.
Which brings me nicely to what is probably the main feature on the player -- the screen. In terms of visual impact, it is exceptional, and ranking up with the best of the portable media players. It's sharp, responsive and has rich colours. It's also a touchscreen, but unlike many touchscreens the screen doesn't "depress" when you press it. This makes it feel much more high-quality. It's quite a good touchscreen too, but it's occasionally a little slow.
Sound quality is incredible -- I've never heard a better-sounding player.
The bluetooth is very useful, because it lets you take calls if your phone has bluetooth and is nearby. You can also use wireless headphones with it. Another feature of note is that you can download films and programs from BBC iPlayer on your computer and play them on the p3. But the killer feature on the yp-p3 is its raw value -- for a touchscreen portable media player, it's unbeatable.
The main downsides are that the screen, whilst being very good, is too small to comfortably watch a film on (though I find that 30-minute TV programs are fine) and that 8gb is just too small to fit all my music and videos on. If you can spare the money, I'd recommend going for the 16gb or 32gb models. Oh, and the supplied headphones are pants. If you want dirt-cheap replacements, get the creative ep-830s instead, going for about a tenner on amazon.
In conclusion, it's great. Just get it.
Best value touch screen player around!
I've owned the 8gb Samsung YP-P3 for a few months now, only recently selling it so I could buy the 32gb version! Anyway, its a great player. The most obvious comparison is the iPod Touch, as well as the Cowon S9 and Sony X-series.
All of the aforementioned MP3 players are good, but the Samsung YP-P3 stands out for one major reason: its the cheapest! For the price you get stellar sound quality (most agree it sounds better than an iPod) great native video support (drag n drop most video files straight onto the player without conversion) plus a FM radio, Voice Recorder and Bluetooth which means you can wirelessly play music on BT speakers or BT headphones and can even sync with your phone so you can take calls on your YP-P3!
Of course the Ipod Touch & Sony X series has WiFi internet access, which is cool, but I figure I don't really need any more access to the internet, I'm on it too much as it is. But the P3 has plenty of little bells and whistles too, like some fun (but simple) games, customizable homescreen (you can move the icons and widgets around & change the background picture) downloadable themes, subway maps (including the tube!) and a little built in speaker which works great with the alarm feature. Also it has a 'haptic' touch screen (which you can switch off) which creates a small vibration when you hit a 'button' on the screen, creating a pseudo-tactile response (feels a but more like a real button than just a touch screen).
Also you don't have to use any specific software to get music or video on it (the included software which is optional to use is pretty rubbish actually) - you can use a program like Windows Media Player or just drag n drop them in. Plus its hot-swappable between PCs and Macs.
Other players have their advantages but for me the YP-P3 is simply unbeatable value. Unless you must have WiFi on your Mp3 Player, I'd have no hesitation recommending it to everyone!
